MCGG is a communal community garden. There are no individual plots, everyone works together to grow and maintain the crops in our large garden beds, the fruit trees in our orchard and our communal gathering spaces.
The harvest is shared by all members, with plenty for everyone, and any surpluses are donated to local community organisations.
Members are free to access the garden at any time that suits them. Jobs that need to be done and produce ready for harvest are listed on a to-do-list visible to everyone.
If you prefer work with others, there are regular weekly gardening sessions on Wednesdays and Saturdays where experienced gardeners can provide direction, and a lively WhatsApp group to coordinate meet-ups at the garden. We also come together at regular working bees to tackle big jobs and share in delicious organic produce and hearty home-cooked dishes.
MCGG is a not-for-profit incorporated association that is managed by an elected group of volunteer members who form a Committee of Management.
The Committee and the broader garden membership meet four times a year to make important decisions, raise new ideas, plan for the growing season ahead and organise events.
Committee positions include:
Each committee member brings a variety of experiences, personal interests, skills and expectations. The benefits of joining the Committee include:
All garden members are encouraged to participate and be part of the Committee and are welcome to attend meetings.
MCGG acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we operate. We pay respect to Elders past, present, and emerging, as well as to all First Nations’ communities who significantly contribute to the life of the area.
